About Ann Lowry
Ann Lewis
- No evidence she was the same person as Martha Clay
Extant grave in Warner Hall Graveyard, Gloucester, Virginia for Elizabeth WARNER Lewis (1672-1719), daughter of Augustine WARNER II and wife of Col. John LEWIS.
Grave marker reads: Here lyeth inter'd ye body of Elizabeth Lewis, ye daughter of Col. Augustine Warner and Mildred, his wife and ye late wife of John Lewis, Esq. She was born at Chesake the 24 of Nov. 1672. She is the mother of 14 children. (only Nine of these children have been identified.)
John LEWIS, the Councillor, inherited Chemokins in New Kent County from his father, Major John LEWIS (L29B-21Z). Originally, he lived there and that is where he married Elizabeth WARNER in 1692. He was a member of the Vestry in New Kent County, Colony of Virginia until 1702. Therefore, the first two children of John LEWIS, the Councillor and Elizabeth WARNER were born at Chemokins, New Kent, Colony of Virginia.
- 1. John LEWIS (1694-1754) born at Chemokins, New Kent County, Colony of Virginia.
- 2. Colonel Charles LEWIS (1696-1779), born at Chemokins, New Kent Colony of Virginia.
In 1702, Elizabeth WARNER Lewis inherited Warner Hall, Gloucester County from her brother, Robert WARNER who had died leaving her this residence. So, John and Elizabeth LEWIS moved from Chemokins in New Kent to Warner Hall in Gloucester. From 1702, the following seven identified children were baptized in Abingdon Parish, Gloucester. Six of the seven are recorded in the Parish Registry. For an unknown reason, Mary LEWIS who married Major Robert THROCKMORTON as his first wife is not recorded in the Parish Registry. Perhaps, she also was born at Chemokins.
