This John McNeil was commonly called Iain Mac Ruairidh by the early settlers. He was married to Ann, daughter of John McDougall (Og), who was an officer in the army before he settled on the mainland of Scotland, where he became a prosperous farmer.

The issue of this marriage was: Effie, John Og, Donald, Alex, Peter, Michael, Donald Og, Peggie, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Catherine.
