About Ann Perry Tandy Henderson

Ann Perry Tandy was the daughter of Jackson Tandy and Sarah Scott Snelling. She was born on December 25, 1821, in Lafayette County, Kentucky. She married Henry Merrill Henderson on August 2, 1838 in Missouri. They had ten children. She died March 11, 1891, in Lakeview, Lake County, Oregon. There is an undated tombstone in the Lakeview Cemetery, in a cluster of undated stones, that reads, simply, "Mrs. H. M. Henderson."

Ann Tandy's family were a part of the migration to the west coast of the United States. Her extend family were members of the Harlow/Tandy wagon train, headed for Oregon. She and husband Henry and sons William and Viator, appear on the 1850 census for Utah. After that, they leave the train, settling briefly in northern Nevada, before heading to California. By 1851, they are in the Santa Clara Valley, living briefly in Alviso, Mountain View and Fremont.

By 1870, the family is in Paradise Valley, Siskiyou County, California, where they are leasing a farm. Later, they moved north to Lane County, Oregon, and live next door to Ann's brothers William and Robert. Henry has given up farming and has become a minister.

  • Sarah Ann Henderson, born October 22,1839, Grundy County, Missouri, and died there August 7, 1845.
  • Mary Eleanor Henderson, born February 1, 1842 in Grundy County, Missouri, and died there April 8, 1844.
  • William Henry Henderson, born c.November 1844 in Livingston, Henry County, Missouri. Came west with his family as a small child. He died in 1900 in California. No known wife or children.
  • Emma Jemima Henderson, born December 5, 1848, in Livingston, Henry County, Missouri, and lived only 15 days.
  • Viator Tandy "VT" Henderson, born May 24, 1850, Pottawatomie Territory on the trail west. He is believed to have died in Oregon after 1920. No known wife or children.
  • Melvina Jemima Henderson, born May 15, 1853 in Alviso, Santa Clara County, California. Married William Clark Gruelle. Eleven children. She died October 16, 1950 in Everett, Snohomish County Washington.
  • Vincent Snelling Henderson, born March 16, 1856 in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California. Married Charlotte Drusilla Strong. Thirteen children. He died February 20, 1939 in Salinas, Monterey County, California.
  • Edward Perry Henderson, born 1859 in California and died in 1910 in Oregon. Never married.
  • Ida Dianne Henderson, born in 1863 in California and died in 1865 or 1866 in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California.
  • Leven Jackson "Jack" Henderson, February 8, 1865 in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California. Married Nancy Eleanor Sutherland. Five children. Died January 9, 1930 in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon and was buried at MuCulloch Cemetery, Crow, Lane County.
