Daughter of Sterling Clack Thornton and Mary Jones. Moved to Lynchburg when she disgraced her family by becoming a shouting Methodist. At her death in 1856 she left her home to the Methodist Church. She was an unusually progressive woman who spent much time helping care for sister and widow Martha Talbot-s children.
