About Ann Turnbull, Free Settler "Coromandel" 1802

Ann was born in 1765 in Annan, Scotland and was a domestic when she married John Turnbull in Soho London on 4th April 1790. He was a widower aged 38 years at the time and had previously been married at 25 years of age to a Mary Hodge. John & Mary had 2 children who evidently died very young.

John and Ann were members of a free group of Presbyterian emigrants who came out on "Coromondel" in 1802. They had 9 children. Ralph; Mary Ann (dec); John (dec), then another Mary Ann; James; Jessica; John; George and William.

Ann died 18 December 1819 aged 54 (50 on births/deaths/Marriages list) and is buried at Wilberforce NSW cemetery in R section, Row 9, Plot 6 next to her daughter, Mary Ann.

A group of Presbyterian families from Scotland and Northern England emigrated to Australia aboard the ship 'Coromandel' which departed Deptford on 12 Feb 1802 and arrived at Sydney Cove on 13 Jun. They had decided to accept the English government's offer of land grants for free settlers to Australia.
