22. Noah Abell, son of Caleb Abell and Mary Miller, born December 25, 1706; died 1783; married at Norwich, Connecticut., May 23, 1729, Anna, born August 16, 1711, died April 30, 1801 at Franklin, dau. of Ahial and Abiah (Hough) Marshall.

On March 2, 1757, Noah deeded his lot and Buildings where he lived, containing 9 acres and 76 rods, to William Morgan of Norwich, formerly of Groton, Conn., 16 acres and 102 rods of Woodland on the highway, that leads to Sam’ll Gifford’s, and 20 acres and 40 rods across the (Yantic) river. This last parcel prob. includes a small steep hill or ledge of rock where tradition has it that the Indians had a Fort in ancient times before the white people came to Norwich.

Will of Noah Abell of Norwich, dated Apr. 7, 1781:

Considering my advanced years. To wife Anna, one third part of land and buildings. To my four daughters, Mary the wife of Samuel Griswold, Lucy the Wife of Benajah Bushnell, June., Abiah the Wife of John Diggs, Hannah the wife of John Edgcomb, the full value of £20 to each in Spanish milled dollars, 6s to a Dollar— to be paid by my two sons Caleb Abell & Thomas Abell—each to pay one half. To Thomas Abell my Dwelling house & my barn & the land they both stand on. All the rest of Estate to be equally divided between the two sons Caleb & Thomas & they to pay equally all debts and bequests to my wife & daughters.

The two sons are named as Executors. The Will was proved in Franklin, Apr. 3, 1787. On Apr. 11, 1789, an agreement signed by Anna Abell, Caleb Abell and Thomas Abell, describing the land and the personal property that each is to have of the Estate of Noah Abell. A metal marker at his grave reads: “A Patriots’ grave 1775-1783.”
