WikiTree Data

Pelatiah Glover was a prominent New England preacher based in Springfield, Massachusetts. A 15 page biographical sketch is provided by an 1865 Glover family genealogical history.[1]

Birth, childhood and education
Pelatiah was born in 1637 in Dorchester, MA to John Glover Esq. (1600-1653) and his wife Anna (Unknown) Glover (abt.1606-abt.1670).[2]

Pelatiah grew up in Dorchester and attended but did not graduate from Harvard.[3]

Career as a preacher
He is said to have "studied DIvinity with Rev. Mather"[4] and became a minister. After preaching in various locations around Boston and elsewhere he was assigned to a church in Springfield, MA and moved there in 1661.[5]

During King Philip's War in 1675 his house was among 30 buildings in Springfield which were burnt by native Americans. This largely destroyed his sizeable library.[6]

Marriage and children
Pelatiah married Hannah (Cullick) Glover (abt.1640-abt.1689) in 1660 in Boston, MA.[7][8]

Hannah and Pelatiah had at least 5 children:

Samuell, b. 28 Nov 1661[9]
John, b. 1 Jul 1663[10]; d. 14 Jan 1664[11]
Pelatiah, b. 27 Jan 1665[12]
Anna, b. 21 Aug 1668[13] and d. 6 Jun 1690.[14]
Mary, b. April 1671[15] or 20 Aug 1671[16] or 17 Apr 1672[17]
Hannah died in Springfield 20 Dec 1689.[18]

Death
Pleatiah Glover died 29 Mar 1692 in Springfield, MA.[19]
