About Anna Maria (Kuhn) Braun Bach

Born: Herzog, Samara, Volga, Russia

Married: Andreas Braun Andreas Braun was born about 1826 and died after the 1857 census and before the 1879 Family list where he is listed as deceased.

--------------------------------------------

Die Herzoger lists this Anna Maria Kuhn as the wife of Andreas Braun who died in Russia and the mother of five sons who came to the US. Anna herself immigrated and according to Die Herzoger died 19 Mar 1902, which appears to be an error as she actually died 19 Mar 1908. She also appears to have remarried to an Unknown Bach who probably died in Russia, also.

There is also a discrepancy with her name as she is listed as Anna Katharine Kuhn in the 1857 Herzog census and as Anna Maria in US records. It could be that the Russia census listing is wrong or that Anna Katharine died shortly after the census and this is Andreas' second wife, making her the mother only of the two youngest sons.

Immigrated to the US on the SS Saale arriving New York, NY on 16 Jan 1892. Passenger list: Line 131, Anna Bach, f, age 60, from Russia, destination Kansas Line 132, Nicolaus Brown, m, age 25, farmer, from Russia, destination Kansas

The 1905 KS census shows her living with son Lorenz and family where she is listed as Anna Braun and 79 years old. Lorenz Braun was one of the founders of St. Boniface parish in Vincent,KS and the church history lists Anna Maria Bach as the first parish death recorded, with interment in Victoria. See photograph.

--------------------------------------------

It has been reported that Anna Maria (Kuhn) Bach parents were Johann Heinrich Kuhn and Anna Margaretha (see below).

Johann Heinrich Kuhn and Anna Margaretha were the original Herzog colonists. She died before 1798, he soon after since he was 73 in 1798, so they are not her parents. There are two Anna Maria Kuhns in the 1834 census, one born 1824 and the other 1825 which could be this person. There is no good candidate for an Anna Katharine Kuhn, closest is a Katharine Kuhn born 1829.

On Peter Kuhn's page I left her as unassigned because I couldn't figure where she belonged on the Kuhn tree.
