About Joseph John Braun
The old stone is now unreadable, and a plaque was attached to the the grave stone, but it appears the birth year of 1858 was a mistake.
Something like this happen in Munjor, where plaques were put on old stones that you couldn't read anymore or that didn't have names, and on a few stones it has been noticed some data was wrong.
--------------------------------------------------------
Immigrated to the US on the SS America arriving New York, NY on 17 Apr 1888. Passenger list:
Josef Braun, age 39, m, farmer, from Russia Barba Braun, 33, f Marga Braun, 10, f Maria Braun, 4, f Andreas Braun, 3, m Johannes Braun, 1, m Catha Braun, 17, f
Their destination is listed as Maryland which may be because the ship continued on to Baltimore before they disembarked. Also, Marga Braun's age was closer to 12 and Maria Braun's age should have been closer to 10, but otherwise the list matches the Josef Braun family. The Catha Braun, age, 17, was most likely the wife of Josef's brother, Lorenzo who had immigrated to the US on the SS Ems arriving 8 Apr 1888. The wives of these two Braun brothers were sisters so perhaps Catharine was helping her sister Barbara with the younger children.
Die Herzoger lists the parents of the Becker sisters as Johannes Becker and wife Margaret. The Becker families are in several of the Volga villages but the closest match is a Jacob Becker (1829-?) and wife Margaretha Orth (1828-?) in Louis (Ostrogovka). They had a daughter Margaret (Barbara) Becker born 1853.
