Wallace McGrath, the son of the Reverend Thomas McGrath and Rebecca Culbertson Wallace, was born around 1844 (location unknown but presumed to be Ohio). He served in the Union Army during the Civil War and rose to the rank of Major. After the death of his first wife Anna McFarland, he remarried on September 4, 1878 to Sybil E. Fairfield in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. They had three children together: Anna, Fannie and Julia. After the war, he worked for several railroads in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kansas as a Roadmaster and Engineer. Wallace later died in 1909 in Kansas. His second wife, Sybil, died in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri in 1929.
