Mrs. Anna L. Schmutz, wife of Nicholas Schmutz, died at her home near Alida, Tuesday, March 8, aged 62 years. Mrs. Schmutz was a native of Germany and came to this country 34 years ago. The cause of her death was lung fever brought on by a cold. She was only sick four days and is was thought she would recover and be spared to her aged husband and five children who survive her, but God willed it otherwise and in his all wise wisdom, took away a loving wife and kind mother. The funeral will take place this afternoon.
SCHMUTZ. -- Anna Elizabeth Schmutz, nee Ratz, was born on July 16, 1830, in Switzerland, and died at her home near Alida, Kansas, March 8, 1892, at the age of 61 y., 7 m. and 21d. She was married to the now bereaved husband and father, Nicholas Schmutz, over 38 years ago, which union was blessed with 8 children, 5 of whom are left to mourn for their mother, but not as those who have no hope, for they are on the way to meet their redeemed mother. In 1870 she went with her husband to attend an Evangelical camp-meeting near Holton, Kansas, where she found the pearl of great price and was, in the hand of God, the beginning of a large society, of which she was the first converted member. All Evangelical ministers found at her home especially a hearty welcome. Her last sickness lasted only 5 days of suffering. Her last words surely are a consolation to the husband and father, to the remaining children and many relatives and friends. Funeral services held by A. Solt.
