ANNA LUCILE GEARHART STEELE, 99, of Fort Wayne, formerly of South Bend, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009, 6:45 p.m., at Regency Place, Fort Wayne. Born July 23, 1909, in North Liberty, she was the daughter of William and Alma (Miller) Gearhart. She lived in South Bend most of her life until moving to Fort Wayne in September of 2001. She retired as a clerk with H. L. Green Variety Store, South Bend where she was known as the "Hat Lady". She was a member of Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren, South Bend. In September of 1947, in South Bend, as Anna Gearhart, she married Merle V. Steele.
