Anna Susanna Dorothea Scholl was the daughter of Philip Peter Scholl. Anna was born 27 Sept 1741 in Baaden, Wyerbach, Germany and died 11 Feb 1823 in Pennsylvania. She married Johann Peter Scholl around 1772 in Pennsylvania. Johann Peter Scholl was born 7 April 1738 and died 18 March 1814 in Penn. Their surnames were the same but they were not relatives. Some say Anna Susanna Dorothea Scholl was a runaway - that she ran away from home after her biological mother died. Her father had remarried to Catherine Welker. It was believed that she did not have a good relationship with her step-mother and so she ran away. She was befriended by another family, also with the surname Scholl (Peter Scholl's parents) who were on their way to America. They agreed to look after Anna on the trip over to America. It was a terrible trip under the best of circumstances, but this trip was hazardous. The ship was blown off course and Peter's whole family died of ship's fever before they could reach land. The two young people, Anna and Peter, arrived at the Port of Philadelphia alone and without family. To pay back their passage, they were placed as servants. It took a long time but they did pay back their debts to the captain of the ship. Eventually Anna and Peter married. Despite some records which try to prove the following story to be false, the family of Anna Susanna Dorothea Scholl, especially the eldest daughter of Phillip and his first wife still keep it as a part of their family tradition: Another story says: It is said the Phillip and his first wife had a small son who died young, but had to be cared for by Anna Susanna Dorothea Scholl, the eldest daughter of Phillip and his first wife after the death of her mother. When Anna's brother and mother died, Phillip remarried. There was much fighting with her stepmother, so Anna ran away from home. She met upwith the family of John Peter Scholl and they took her under their wing. This family was on their way to America and it was agreed that Anna would go with them and pay back her passage later. Anna sailed with them working for her passage on the ship "Snow Louisa" and arrived at the port of Philadelphia on the 8th of Nov 17552. A plague or ship's fever overtook the ship while on it's voyage to America and Johann Peter Scholl's parents and siblings all perished. Anna Scholl would marry this Johann Scholl about twenty years later. Anna's father, Phillip, and his second wife Elizabeth Catherine and at least two of their children are said to have sailed America sometime later (1754). Although this story is interesting, the baptismal record of Phillip's daughter, Maria Magdalena Scholl, dated 14 April 1751, New Hanover Lutheran Church in Falkner's Swamp, Montgomery County, Penn and his land patent of Berks County, Penn dated 1751, show Phillip Peter Scholl had to have been in America no later than the summer of 1750. It is likely that perhaps Anna didn't get along with her stepmother and ran away from home to live with her Uncle after the family arrived in America as a unit. Notes for Johan Peter Scholl: Parents were from the Black Forest Region of Germany. He immigrated to America on the ship "Snow Louisa" and arrived in Philadelphia 8 Nov 1752. He married Anna Susanna Dorothea Scholl 1772 and they settled near Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, Penn on what later became the William Lutz anad William Kreamer farms. Both are buried in Kermerling's Church Cemetery, Freedenburg, Schuylkill County, Penn. The following is inscribed on their stones: Heir ruhet Johan Peter Scholl geboren den 7 ten April 1738 starb den 18 ten Mrz 1814 Alt 75 Jahr 11 Mo 20 Tag Das Grab ist meine Kamer Da ich von allem lammer Ganz ruhig schofen kan.
