About Annabella Hamilton

ANNABELLA HAMILTON

Spurious Pedigrees

The anestry of Annabella Hamilton, here treated, is uncertain. The Holmberg/Borene Family Tree identifies her as the daughter of Robert Hamilton, born at Aitkenhead in 1600, and Lady Isobel, born at Paisley in 1598. She is said to have married Andrew Campbell in Londonderry in 1609 and to have had a son named Duncan Campbell, born in 1645, at Drumboden, Kilmachrenan, Donegalabama (sic), Ireland. rootsweb: Holmberg/Borene Tree

Another pedigree published on the internet, evidently under the umbrella of Wikipedia, identifies her as Lady Isobel Hamilton, ,daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Abercorn, and his wife Margaret Boyd. James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Abercorn

An alternative genealogy is proposed by Stirnet, in their accounrt of the family of Hamilton of Torrance, where Annabella Hamilton, here treated, is identified as the sixth child of Robert Hamilton of Torrance and his wife Beatrix Hamilton. More accurately Stirnet suggests that "Annabell Hamilton possibly fits here". Stirnet: Hamilton 24 Stirnet's seeming reluctance to make a positive identification seems justified by their account of the family of Dugald Campbell, Minister of Letterkenny in County Donegal, Ireland, which identifies her as the daughter of Robert Hamilton of Barncleugh & Torrens. Stirnet: Campbell 11 Clan MacFarlane follows Stirnet's account of the Campbell family but goes on to manufacture a date and place of birth for Annabella Hamilton. Inexplicably, Clan MacFarlame moves Barnecluith, and Torrens, from Lanarkshire to Ayrshire. Clan MacFarlane and associated clans genealogy
