Annabella was born in Lenaderg, a village incorporated in the town of Banbridge, Ireland. It is about two miles from the center of Banbridge and a half mile from Lawrencetown. Lenaderg was the home of the Milltown Bleach Works, linnen manufacturers, bleachers finishers and merchants. In 1886, 8 years after Annabella was born, 250 people lived in the worker millhouses provided by the owner of the Milltown Bleach Works, William Smyth + Co. Annabella's father, Willam Henry Wilson, is noted as bleeter on her birth certificate. A bleeter worked finishing linen.. He operated a beetling machine which was quite noisy. It beat and pounded cloth in order to give linen its sheen.
Annabella and James Mulligan married at the Scarva Street Presbytarian Church on April 8, 1901.
