Married at Age 12 to Luke Abraham who was then 24. Was so good looking, that all the people watching her bridal horse carriage taking her and her bridegroom exclaimed " Aandan Kaaka namma Vellai Puravai kothitu pochi !!!"
Was taught Spoken English after her marriage to Luke, by an Anglo-Indian teacher, and was fluent and well- spoken. Was a good card player, and her huge card sessions at her home in Shenoy Nagar were very popular. Famous for her huge Christmas lunches !
A warm gregarious lady, very talented, and could play the piano, violin and veena with great expertise. Was a talented singer, and sang for the choir in The Andrew's Kirk at Egmore for over 30 years. Was a member of the MMA ( Madras Musical Association) , and was in touch with all her grandchildren, which was no mean feat as she had 36 !. A beautiful lady, with grey green eyes, and a peaches and cream complexion, took great care of her appearance until her death. In her youth, was an avid tennis player, and even played doubles with India's great Salim Ghouse ! Was very popular with her granddaughters for her huge Mills & Boon and Georgette Hayer Collection, which used to be borrowed by us.. I still miss her fantastic cakes, chicken curry and turkey roasts on Christmas morning !
