There are no sourced records which validate that Anna St. John married John Benedict (1676-1766); however, that does not mean the union did not occur. Anna died at a relatively young age (Approximately 26 years of age). She was born on 8 Aug 1674 in Norwalk, CT to Mark St John (1633-1693) and Elizabeth Stanley (1635-1693) and died sometime in or before 1700 (no source records exist that validate her death date and location).

The only source for this union (outside of Ancestory.Com) is:

Source Information:

Edmund West, comp.. Family Data Collection - Marriages [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 2001.

But this data is highly suspect!!

What is known is that the U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 record a validated Marriage between John Benedict and Mary Haite (Hoyte) in 1700 in Conneticut; thus, it is very probable that Anna St John was the first wife of John Benedict and died sometime on or before 1700...John Benedict then married Mary Haite (Hoyte) who had issue with 6 documented children. There are also, no sourced records showing any issue between Anna St John and John Benedict!

Therefore, there is currently no reason to REMOVE Anna St John as a spouse of John Benedict until further research can formally validate whether this marriage occured or not. Additionally, there are no records to validate that Anna and John had any children...therefore no children should be reflected for this union!
