He was granted lands by his father in 1528 in Little and Great Storton, Cheshire. He married (1st) before 1543 ELIZABETH SCARISBRICK, daughte and heiress of James Scarisbrick, Esq., of Bickerstaffe (in Ormskirk), Lancashire, by his 1st wife, Margaret, daughter of Thomas Atherton. She was born in 1516. They had one daughter, Margaret, (wife of Henry Stanley, Esq.). In 1553-4 he acquired the reversion of Moor Hall (in Aughton), Lancashire from William Bradshagh. His wife, Elizabeth was living 22 Aug. 1558. He married (2nd) 21 Aug. 1559 At Aughton, Lancashire CECILY TARLETON, daughter of Richard Tarleton, of Walton. They had two sons, Edward, Knt. [1st baronet], and William, Gent., and two daughters, Anne and Alice, His wife, Cecily, was buried at Ormskirk, Lancashire 28 Nov. 1568. In 1584, being a recusant or suspected person, he was required to furnish a light horseman accoutred (o rL24) for the queen's service in Ireland. He married (3rd) before 1589 JANE LEIGH, widow of Richard Starkey, of Stretton in the Netherhall, Cheshire, and daughter of Philip Leigh, of Bouthes. They had no issue. She married at Ormskirk, Lancashire 14 May 1576 EDWARD SUTTON, Gent., of Knowsley (in Huyton), Lancashire and Hall House (in Rushton spencer), Staffordshire, Deputy Steward of the manor of Prescot, Lancashire for Henry Stanley, Earl of Derby, 1578-96. They had four daughters, Alice (wife of John Eardley, Gent.), Jane, Margaret, and Anne. Edward and his wife, Anne, were present at the 1598 funeral of her brother-in-law, Henry Stanley, Esq. In 1607 Anne, wife of Edward Sutton and her daughter, Alice Eardley, were returned as Popish recusants. In 1607-8 Edward Sutton, Gent., and Anne his wife, and John Eardley, Gent. and Alice his wife conveyed a messuage, garden, and lands in Rushton Spencer, Ravenscloughe and Cloudwood (in Leek), Staffordshire to John Davenport, Esq. Sometime in the period, 1607-25, Richard Eltonhead sued Sir William Bowyer, Thomas Ridiard [Rudyard], and John Eardley in Chancery regarding "messuages and lands in Rushton Spencer, Staffordshire "late of Edward Sutton." She married about 1607 RICHARD ELTONHEAD, Gent., of Eltonhead (in Prescot), Lancashire, son and heir of William Eltonhead, of Eltonhead (in Prescot), Lancashire, by Anne, daughter of James Bowers, of Brierly, Yorkshire. He was baptized at Prescot, Lancashire 6 Jan 1580/1. They had six sons, Edward, Richard, John, Richard (again), James, and Henry, and nine daughters, Anne (wife of Edmund Wall), Katherine (wife of Thomas Meare), Barbara, Elizabeth (wife of Henry Parham), Jane, Agatha, Eleanor, Martha, and Alice. Sometime in the period, 1603-25, he and John Eltonhead sued Ralph Stanlake and __ Nicholson in Chancery regarding a bond. He was a legatee and overseer in the will of his uncle, Thomas Eltonhead, Gent. Presumably he is the Richard Eltonhead, Gent., of Charlton, Kent who was presented for not attending church in 1641. In 1642 his estates were ordered to be sold, he being a royalist supporter. In 1649 he petitioned regarding his "capital messuage and lands called Eltonhead Hall in Sutton," claiming a deduction of L120, it being a debt due on abond to Thomas Barnes, who sued him "to the outlawry' in 1646. He also stood indebted to other persons in the aggregate sum of L190. His wife, Anne, was buried at Prescot, Lancashire 13 July 1654. RICHARD ELTONHEAD, Gent., was buried there in 1664. .... etc.

He was baptized at Ponteland, Northumberland 29 Dec. 1614. They had three sons, Robert, Richard, and John. He served as a member of the Maryland Assembly 1637/8, 1638/9, 1640, 1641, 1642, 1647/8, 1649, 1650-1550/51, proprietary agent to New England 1643, justice of St. May's County, 1644.     • iv. MARTHA ELTONHEAD, born after 1613, living 28 Jan. 1653/4. She married EDWIN CONWAY, Gent. He was born in Worcestershire, England. They had one son, Edwin, and one daughter, Eltonhead (wife of Henry Thacker). He immigrated to Virginia, where he settled in Northampton County, Virginia. He was third clerk of Northampton County in 1642. He was granted land in 1644 and 1652/3 on Hungars Creek in Northampton County, Virginia. He was granted 1,250 acres of land on Corotman River in Lancaster County, Virginiain 1652, to which county he removed. In 1657 he was granted 2,500 acres adjacent to John Meredith, of which 1,200 acres were due for an ealier patent and 1,200 acres for the transport of 25 persons. In 1660 he sold 200 acres of this land to William Gordon. EDWIN CONWAY, Gent., died in Lancaster County, Virginia shortly before 14 March

Edward Sutton, 5th Baron Dudley

Edward Sutton, 5th Baron Dudley (1567-1643) inherited the lordship of Dudley from his father, also Edward Sutton, and was the last of his name to bear the title. He was married to Theodosia Harrington. They had a son Ferdinando, who predeceased his father leaving a daughter Frances.
