Biography
According to John Scale's (1835-1928), Colonial Era History of Dover, the wife of [Elder] Hatevil Nutter (will 28 Dec 1674, proved 29 Jun 1675),[1][2]was a woman named Anne AYERS.[3]
Torrey (1985), asserts that Anne AYRES, was Nutter's second wife, and that the couple married in Dover, New Hampshire. Torrey (1985), also states that Nutter had a previous wife named Mary (b. 1630), and that they married in Dover.[4]
Boyle (1997) disagrees and asserts that Anne's son Anthony was born in England about 1630, and was the mother of Hateville's five (5) children.[3]
In any case ... "ANNE" was a legatee of Nutter's will, which also names three of his children:[3][1]
Anthony (b. abt. 1630 x 36).[1]
Abigail m. Sgt. John Roberts.[1] Mary (d. 1674).[1][5] m. (bef. 1670) John Wingate (b. bef. 1636 England d. 09 Dec 1687; will 12 Mar 1683/4, codicil 01 Dec 1687, proved 23 Mar 1687/8), immigrant & planter at Hilton's Point as early as 1658.[1][5] Boyle (1997), states they had another son John (d. 1669/74); and a daughter Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Leighton, who died sometime before Nutter wrote his will.[3]
