Mrs James Scott

A loyal and devoted soldier of the Salvation Army Annie Forbes was the daughter of Alexander Forbes and Jane Thomas. Annie was born in 1828 in Waaiplaats and was still very young when her father was killed in 1835 in Native disturbances of that time. She married James Scott in 1850 in Peddie where their first daughter Ann was born before moving to Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape where the other 13 children where born. James Scott died in 1890 and Annie from then on lived with her children and daughter in law; Ruth Scott (Quarterman), Mrs Stone, Mrs Colonel Rauch and Mrs Garrett. Annie Forbes lived a very quiet last 6 years of her life and died in 1821 and it was said that it would be difficult to form a conception of a more simple, gracious Christian life. Her nephew Alison read her devotions every evening which gave her great comfort. She was nursed by Mrs Garrett her daughter and Mrs Godden her grand daughter. The coffin was covered with the Union Jack and her son James and William from Queenstown where present. Annie bore 14 children, had 65 grandchildren and 50 great grand children.
