ANNE DE MORNAY 1583-1646

Third daughter of Plessis-Mornay and Charlotte crossbow. Born in 1583, she was raised by her grandmother Françoise Bec, Buhy lady, mother of Plessis-Mornay. She married in 1603, Jacques Nouhes the lord of the Tabarière and Sainte-Hermine in Poitou, whom she had seven children. Widowed in 1632, she remarried Nompar Jacques de Caumont, duc de La Force, the famous marshal.

You can see the Library of French Protestantism a nice big Bible connected in red morocco and gilt-edged. It says on one of the dishes: "Philippe de Mornay. 1582... I [Charlotte d'Arbaleste] was pregnant at this time and was brought to bed at Plessis with a daughter. She was baptized Anne and her godfather was M. de Buhy, and his wife, Anne d'Anlezy, my sister-in-law, was her godmother.

.....Four months later [after 31 Dec 1590] our sorrow was grievously renewed by the death of Dame Francoise de Bee, Mile de Buhy, M. du Plessis' mother, who loved us all dearly. Up to her last breath she showed her zeal and love for our religion. She was assisted on her death-bed by M. du Buisson, a minister of the Gospel, who is also known by the name of Viau. He has often testified that he never met anyone who was more willing to leave this world or more assured of salvation in Jesus Christ. Her death obliged us to send to Mantes to fetch our youngest child, Anne, which involved a most perilous journey. This daughter of ours had been brought up by my mother-in-law who V loved her dearly up to her last breath. She left her a legacy as well as one to my son. Her body was taken to Buhy to be buried by the side of her husband.
