Annemarie (56), and her mentally disabled son Ruan Britz (34), from Valley Farm outside Nelspruit were murdered in their home on the night of Saturday 24th April. Annemarie was stabbed multiple times, Ruan was bludgeoned to death. Annemarie’s husband Fanie, a section manager on the farm, arrived home after patrolling the area and found their bodies in the living room.
Jaap Breedt, Fanie's cousin said, it is not yet clear exactly how many attackers there were, but he suspects there was more than one. The killers cut a fence to gain access to the house. It is suspected that they may have heard Botha's bakkie arrive and then fled.
Ruan lived at a care center in Lydenburg and visited the farm on weekends. Annemarie was a teacher at the Calvary Christian School in Nelspruit. "We are very bitter and angry," Breedt said.
According to Col Donald Mdhluli, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police said several items had been stolen from the house.
“We are concerned about the senseless killings in the farming sector. The incident has been strongly condemned by the management as it occurred during a time when the country is still in shock after two people were recently murdered in Piet Retief. The investigation team should bring the suspects to book quickly,” Mpumalanga acting provincial commissioner Major General Thulani Phahla said."
On Tuesday 27th April Bossies Community Justice released a notice offering a reward of up to R100 000 to those who can provide information leading to the successful arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
