About Annie Foreman

Biography

Dawes Enrollee
Cherokee Intermarried White
Card #1203

Annie Seabolt's birth date is uncertain. She was born between 1800-1812 and is believed to be the daughter of Adam Seabolt and his wife Annie. She is incorrectly listed in Starr's History as the daughter of Henry Seabolt, but other records support her being the sister of Henry, Rachel, John, and Adam Seabolt who all had Cherokee spouses. [1] Her Dawes card (the matching application is lost) lists her as an intermarried white and her father's name as "John." [2] She married Charles Foreman, a Cherokee, about 1830. They were the parents of Minerva, Thomas, William, Charles, and Samuel. The family appears on the 1835 Cherokee census living on Candy's Creek (now Tennessee) with two children. They were Removed to Indian Territory over the Trail of Tears. Charles died in 1844 and she married Thomas Ross about 1846. They were the parents of five children, David, Elizabeth, Emeline, Nancy, and Jeffrey. [3] Annie and Thomas separated at some point and he remarried. Annie died September 13, 1902. [4]

  • Starr lists Seabolt 1-11 Annie Seabolt +Charles Foreman only.In Starr's compilation Annie is the daughter of Henry Seabolt Sr. however a fellow researcher has indicated that she is his sister.
  • Miller Application# 2743 for Margaret Benge nee Seabolt lists a sister, Annie, that was born in 1850.

Apparently Starr got Margaret's sister, Annie, confused with her aunt Annie that married Charles Foreman.

Notes for CHARLES FOREMAN, SR:

  • An account of the Church at Candy's Creek, Cherokee Nation, 1 Jan 1828;

“Charles Foreman- He is second son of Thomas Foreman and very dark conplexioned, he speaks the Cherokee & English languages equally well and frequently exhorts to prayer in religious meetings in his native tongue. I am sorry to state that he is less circumspect & godly than other members of this church.He has made himself subject by mis-conduct to discipline in two cases.Though he is now suspended from church privledges yet he is about being restored.He reads tolerably well.”:
