Annis Stevens

Annis Phelps, daughter of Samuel Phelps and Sarah Chandler, was b.22 Feb 1701 Andover, Essex, Massachusetts and d.28 Dec 1754 Andover, Essex, Massachusetts.

Annis Phelps married first, on 20 Feb 1720/1 at Andover, MA, to Benjamin Stevens (1698-1731). Son of Joshua Stevens and Mary Frye.

Annis Phelps married second, on 21 June 1739 at Andover, MA, to John Stevens (1690-1763). Son of John Stevens and Ruth Poore, he was Elizabeth Chandler’s widower, John Stevens married 3rd to Maria Bixby.

[Note: the comment about Annis being Martha's sister is wrong. It is in the original typescript, p. 8. But it looks like information intended to go with Annis' second husband John Stevens was typed in the entry for her first husband Benjamin, or else it was an early hypothesis that should have been removed. In any event, it was not consistently represented throughout the document. The wife of Joshua is not shown as Martha Phelps, rather as Joshua's cousin Martha Stevens, nor in the Phelps Family of Andover, p. 4-5, does the same author even show a daughter Martha. The preparation for publication cleaned up one error about Annis Phelps being a widow, but missed this one.]

14 May 1739: Annis Stevens made oath to account including charge "to bring up of ye two young Children". Distribution to Annis Stevens, widow, 1/3; to Benj'a Stevens, Eldest son, 2 parts; to Jonath'n Stevens, 2'd son, 1 p't; to Annis Stevens, Daug'r, 2 [1?] p't.
