My great grandfather made several trips to the USA in the late 1800's and the early 1900's. He worked in the copper mines in Butte Montana.
Ante had an accident in the mines one day and fractured his skull. He had surgery and part of his skull. There is a story that he had the fracture repaired by a copper plate but I can't find anything in the medical literature to support that this was the practice at the time.
Below is a trailer of a movie called "Butte America.." It highlights the trials and tribulations that copper miners faced in a well known mine called "Anaconda."
