About Anthon "Anton" Langer, Jr.

Pierce County Herald 1939 El Paso Man Passes Away

Anton Langer, Long time resident of this community ,Dies Friday after Long Illness, Funeral at Lost Creek Monday

Anton Langer a resident of this community for over sixty-five years, died at his home in El Paso township nearly a year due to cancer. He was a patient sufferer, never complaining.

The funeral was held from St Mary's Catholic church at Lost Creek, Rev. Father Talsky of Holy Hill Officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery the pall bearers were six grandsons.

Deceased was born in Germany on January 18, 1868 and came to this country with his parents (Anthon and Anna Maria Langer) when he was 4 years old, coming direct to Lost Creek. His father pruchased forty acres of land which is now part of B.J. Klecker's farm. Here he grew to manhood, helped clear the land on his fathers farm and several adjoining farms. Shortly after his marriage to Anna Hines, Nov 25, 1890, he purchased the land where he has since made his home and cleared this farm. Mr. Langer has often said he has dug thousands of stumps.

With the death of Mr. Langer, Lost Creek loses the last of her resident pioneers- men who came into a wilderness and built long buildings and later modern homes and well equipped farms with up to date buildings and machinery. Other men who were part of the growth of this community but now not living here are J.B. Hines of Red Wing, Joe Hines Sr. and Frank Brookshaw Sr. of Ellsworth.

Mr. Langer was ever a kind and thoughtful husband and father and a most considerate neighbor. Not only will he be sadly missed by his family but many friends mourn his passing.

He is survived by his second wife, Mary Hines, whom he married May 26 1903 and son Joe of Lost Creek, five daughters Mrs. Carl Corman of Ellsworth, Mrs. Joe Wendlick, Mrs. Alfred Seifert, Mrs. Ed Raeschler and Mrs. Leon Klecker all of Lost Creek, twenty two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. One son Henry died in infancy.

Among those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Adolf Maier of Prescott, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Langer of El Paso, John Langer of River Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Yanisch of Red Wing, Mr. and Mrs. James Seifert, Mr. and Mrs. Hubely, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Raeschler, Mrs. Susan Raeschler and son Joe of St Paul.
