About Anthony Waddy, Sr

In October, 1633, Edward Kingswell with his partner Roger Wingate and their families and forty other persons arrived at Jamestown on their way to make a settlement in Carolina.
As no other vessel appeared to carry them to their destination, they waited in Virginia until the next spring when the proposed colony appears to have been abandoned.

On April 18, 1648, a patent was granted to Mr. Lewis Burwell and Thomas Vause for 2,300 acres on the south side of York River, "about seven miles above the Narrows, and adjoining the river, "tanks Queen's Creek," and the lands of Mr Francis Fludd, Mr Thomas Broughton and William Black. The land was due for the importation of forty-six persons. As several persons among the head rights under this patent certainly came with the Kingwell colony, there is good reason to believe that the list represents that colony in its entirety.
From Virginia Gleaning in England (Virginia Historical Magazine) exerpts from page 298 and 299.
Anthony Waddy was one of these 46 person.
Antho. Waddy --head right (see media section).

There is no firm evidence yet that this Anthony Waddy is the father of Samuel Waddy who left records in New Kent Co VA.
However, this Anthony left records in early York Co VA and Samuel named his first son Anthony.
So, this compiler will assume that this Anthony was the father of Samuel.

Anthony left the following records in York Co VA:
In Jan 1643/4, Anthony sold land to Robert Holt which he had bought from Capt. John West.
In Dec 1645, Anthony was a defendant when Robert Lewis brought a suit against him.
In Oct 1645, Waddy's name was included in a list of debtors to the estate of John Eaton.
In Sep 1647, Waddy admitted a judgment against him for 360 pounds of tobacco owed to John Russell.
