Anthony V. Weasler of West Bend, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at his residence, at the age of 94.
He was born July 30, 1905, in Campbellsport, to the late Moritz and Hanna (nee Miller) Weasler, and married Lucille A. Gonnering at Holy Angels Church, West Bend, on Nov. 12, 1938.
She passed away Feb. 24, 1989.
Following his graduation from Campbellsport High School in 1923, Tony attended Marquette University's College of Engineering where he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1928, and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1929.
In 1929, he joined Pick Manufacturing Co. as its chief engineer, and later became vice president and general manager.
In 1951, he formed his own company, Weasler Engineering and Manufacturing Co. Inc., where he served as chairman of the board. He was a registered professional engineer, holding 15 United States and foreign patents.
Tony had been a constant and dedicated leader for Marquette University and alumni programs over the years. His memberships include the Marquette University Chapter of Triangle, a national engineering fraternity, Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit university honor society, Tau Beta Pi, the national honorary mechanical engineering society, the MU Civic Committee and the Alumni Challenge Associates program, to name a few.
He also has served as a class reunion chairman and co-chairman of the Class Bequest program, and was active in student recruitment. Tony was a member of Marquette University's President's Executive Senate, and a life member of the President's Council.
In 1975, he received the MU Engineering Service Award and the Alumni Service Award in 1982 from the MU Alumni Association. In 1978-'79, he established the Weasler Family Endowed scholarship in Engineering to assist incoming students. In 1991, he was named Marquette University's Distinguished Engineering Alumnus by the College of Engineering's Alumni Association.
In 1989, groundbreaking took place for the Tony and Lucille Weasler Auditorium. The auditorium, which is part of Marquette University's Alumni Memorial Union, was named in recognition of a generous gift commitment given by Tony.
His professional memberships include: American Society of Agricultural Engineers-Wisconsin Chapter, which named him the Engineer of the Year for 1977, Society of Automotive Engineers, Farm Equipment Manufacturer's Association, and the Farm and Industrial Equipment Institute.
Tony served on the Board of Lay Trustees for the Marmion Academy in Aurora, Ill., where he was a life member of Abbot Marmion Society.
His local associations include the West Bend Area Chamber of Commerce, where he was a past president and secretary, the West Bend Noon Kiwanis Club, where he was a past president and director for the West Bend Kiwanis Foundation. Tony was also a director for the West Bend Savings and Loan Association. He was a past president of Holy Angels Parish, Holy Name Society, and past president of St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Holy Name Society.
Survivors include three children, Yvonne (Edward) Reardon of Seabrook Island, S.C., Paul (Jane) and Anthony II, both of West Bend; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Flitter of West Bend; three sisters-in-law, Joan Jansen of Rothschild, Florence (Lloyd) Hron of Kewaskum and LaVerne Shiflet of Macon, Ga.; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a daughter, Antoinette Weasler; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Weasler; a granddaughter, Antoinette Reardon; and a sister, Helen Seefeld.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church, West Bend, with burial Thursday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Cemetery, West Bend.
Visitation at the church only will be Wednesday from 2 to 5:45 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the St. Frances Cabrini Shirley Weasler Scholarship Fund or for Marquette University scholarships.
The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family.
