Anton Belina

Anton Belina, liquor dealer, is native of Bohemia, where he b 1849. He came to this country in 1862 w/parents, Wenzel & Jennie Belina. Family then included 5 children: Frank, Anton, Wenzel, John (who d Dec 13, 1886) & Joseph, all of whom, except John, still live in Steele Co. Father purchased farm in Owatonna Twp, & like many other early settlers found it hard struggle to provide for his family & pay for farm; but, by industry & frugality, he succeeded in paying for his home, becoming 1 of thrifty & substantial citizens of twp. He remained on farm until time of his death in 1884, & his wife still survives him. All the boys were musicians, Anton beginning music when only 9 yrs of age. Charles M, 1 of the bros, is now studying medicine w/Dr Moorehouse. He began in spring 1885, & following winter attended course of lectures at Des Moines. He intends completing thorough course, & has good prospects for future. Anton, subject of this sketch, remained w/parents until 16 yrs of age, when he learned wagon-maker's trade, following that until 1883, when he opened his present establishment.
