Anton Nicolaas Akkerman

We celebrate the homegoing of Anton N. Akkerman on Thursday January 7, 2010 in his 83 rd year. Faithful husband of 56 years to Elly (van Groningen) and father to Erik, Astrid Fortin (Jim Thomson), Marion, and Frank (Relda). Cherished Opa to Chantelle Fortin, Andrea (Dave) Poirier, Jacob, Benjamin, Kyle, Philip and Cameron. He is also survived by his sister Hendrika of Holland. He was the eldest son of Martin and Elisabeth Akkerman of Holland. Anton was a draftsman for Acres, W.P. London and Monenco Engineering firms. He was also an art teacher at Niagara College and obtained his Art Teacher's certificate in The Hague. He was a renowned watercolourist, painting many scenes of the Niagara area. He was also actively involved in many other activities including the Royal Astronomical Society , the Singing Saints men's chorus and the Niagara District Art Association. Anton was an avid bowler, fisherman, camera enthusiast and birdwatcher. Friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls visiting Monday 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Funeral service in celebration of his life will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow with inurnment at a later date at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill.
