About Antonio Bobbio
ACCIDENT NO. 43 - August 9, 1911 – Antony Bobbio, Red Jacket Shaft.
Antony Bobbio, an Italian, met his death on this day.
At the inquest over his body the following testimony was rendered:
John Moretto: “I work at Red Jacket shaft 68th level south. I was working with Bobbio at the time of the accident. This morning when we came down the first thing we did was to look over the ground. Then we put chain and blocks on and started to hoist a log up in place. We had the log up and then tried to swing it over in place when the hook on the blocks broke and the log fell on Toney. When we started to swing the log over I was on one side, Peter Tomasi on the other, while Toney was right under the log. The accident happened the first thing this morning a little after eight o'clock.”
Peter Tomasi: “I work with the same timber gang as Antony Bobbio and the former witness, John Moretto. I can add nothing to what Moretto has said and I corroborate his testimony."
Verdict: "We find that the said Antony Bobbio came to his death by the fall of a piece of timber caused by the breaking of the hook in the blocks at the 68th level South of No. 4 Red Jacket Shaft of Calumet and Hecla Mine, on Wednesday, August 9th, 1911.
