Arina Muller (1983 - 2012)

Brief overview:

Arina (29), a Multiserv area Manager, was shot at point blank range in her chest, in front of her parents, at their smallholding in Mnandi, south of Centurion, on 4th July 2012. Arina Muller's last words were: "Mom, help me." And then shots were fired and she fell to the ground.

Her parents Jan and Kitty dragged Arina to their car, but couldn't get her inside. Jan called Mnandi neighbourhood watch, who in turn called police and emergency services. Arina died before they arrived. Jan is of the opinion the perpetrators were the same two who attacked him in January 2012, and shot his dog. They are known in the area as “Laurel and Hardy.”

"On 5 June 2012 the president of the ANC Youth League, Ronald Lamola, stated in a public speech that farmers should give up their land voluntarily and that the safety of what he referred to as ‘the Van Tonders and the Van der Merwes' (two common Afrikaans surnames) cannot be guaranteed as long as they refused to hand over their land to black South Africans. A few hours later Arina Muller (29) was shot point-blank on her family smallholding just a few kilometres from where Lamola had made the statement.”
