About Aristeo Rizal Ubaldo
Dr. Aristeo Rizal Ubaldo was a nephew of Jose Rizal. As a young man, he would write letters to his expatriated uncle, telling him of his progress at the Ateneo de Manila. A pioneering specialist in opthalmology and otohinolaryngology, Aristeo conducted the first laryngectomy in the country in 1920 and the first labyrunthectomy in 1927 at the Philippine General Hospital. He married the strong-willed Leonarda Limjap, who made history by refusing to wear the crown of the Manila Carnival Queen in 1908, in favor of travel and studies. More here: http://bitly.com/qkpDya
