About Arnold Plumer Austin
Arnold Plumer Austin, son of Richard Henry and Anne Elizabeth Plumer Austin, was born in Pottsville, Pa. September 14, 1867. He received his education in the Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts, and in Yale College, being graduated from the latter institution in 1889. He entered upon the study of law in Uniontown, Pa. in the office of S. Leslie Mestrezat, who afterwards became one of the Justices of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. He served a term as District Attorney of Fayette County and also enjoyed a large and profitable private practice. Although a very successful lawyer, he has not confined his attention exclusively to his profession, but has been engaged in business pursuits in which he has been quite as successful as in his professional life. He has been largely interested in coal properties and in coke works and all the spare time that he has been able to secure from his legal engagements he has devoted to the development of his large and valuable coal and coke properties.
