About Arnold Jacoby

Arnold Jacoby was a teacher, attorney, artist and activist. He was a brilliant student, and was Valedictorian and Phi Beta Kappa in his class of 1903 at CCNY. Arnold and Tessie were one of the founding members of the Progressive Synagogue in Brooklyn . Apparently, when trying to start up the synagogue, they got more help from churches than from the orthodox. (from Bernard Jacoby, March 7, 2010, by phone. They also founded a branch of the Progressive Synagogue in Clearwater, Fla, when they relocated there in the early '50's. Harold and Doris Jacoby were married in the Brooklyn Progressive Synagogue, March 3, 1946. It is now known by another name, but the building still exists. Elyse Eisenberg's tree shows Arnold born in Hummene. On one of Arnold's legal documents, he lists Komancza as his birthplace, as well. Clearly, there was some confusion about the exact locale of his birth.
