Will of Arrington Wickliff (Muhlenburg County, Kentucky Will Book. 2, pp. 139-140): In the name of god Amen I Arington Wickliff of Muhlenberg County and state of Kentucky being sick and weak of Body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God calling to mind the mortality of Body and knowing that it is appoi8nted for all men once to die Do make and ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of the almighty god that gave it and my Body I Recommend to the earth to be Buried in a decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my executors. And touching such worldly Estate as it has pleased God to Bless me with in this life I give and bequeath as follows (to wit) First that ll my just debts be paid and secondly I appoint constitute and ordain my Beloved wife Catharine Wickliffe and my beloved sons Benjamin and Isaac Wickliffe my lawful executors. Further I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Catharine Wickliffe all my Real and personal estate during her life as widowhood but provided she should marry she shall only hold or possess one third of the estate as afforesaid and at my wifes death I request that all my estate real and personal with the Increase of slaves if any shall equally divided amongst my ten children and further I authorise my Beloved wife at the marriage of any of my Children or if Circumstances otherwise Require it to Loan unto one or each of them their Proportionable part that they may be entitled to at her Death but shall not Exceed the sum in proportion to the amount of the estate in witness I here unto set my hand and seal this 23d day of March 1820.
