(From documents in Arch. Dept. S. Lib) Fairfax Co., Va. 17 June, 1833. Personally appeared Hector Kinchloe, aged 63, and made oath that Benjamin and Moses Wickliffe, whose names will be found on the Rolls of the Va. Line, as having served three years in the 8th Va. Regt, during the Rev. War, and were in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown and Monmouth, are both dead, and without issue, leaving a sister named Dorcas Wickliffe who married Cornelius Kinchloe, and who is now a widow residing in the county of Prince William, Va. and entitled as the heir at law of bounty due for service of Benj. and Moses Wickliffe. Signed and sworn to before Silas Burke, J. of P. Attest, William Moss, clk., Fairfax Co. 6 Jul., 1833. Deposition of Sarah Mayhugh, 83 years of age, of Fairfax county: That sometime in the year 1776, three brothers by name of Arrington, Moses and Benjamin Wickliffe, enlisted for three years in the company commanded by Captain Jesse Davis, and marched from Dumfries in Prince William county, under the command of Captain Davis and Lieut. Tyler, and joined the Eighth regiment at Baltimore: wintered at Valley Forge and were in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth. The deponent (Sarah Mayhugh) having set out with the company from Dumfries with the intention of remaining with it while in service. After having served the time of three years for which they enlisted, they (the brothers Wickliffe) were discharged and returned home at which time this deponent also left the army, but did not return home with them. This deponent says she was well acquainted with Colonel Morgan and frequently saw General Washington and the Marquis (Lafayette). The foregoing deposition signed and sworn to by Sarah Mayhugh, 17 June 1833, before Charles F. Ford, J. of P., Fairfax county, Va. Certified to by William Moss, clerk, Fairfax Co. Ct., 6 July, 1833.
