Marriage date documented in the diary of Col. William Byrd of Westover, November 27, 1711.

Byrd did not attend the November 27th wedding as it was too cold, staying instead at Commissary Blair's by the fire.

28. They proceeded in good Order through Surry County, as far as the Widdow Allen's who had copied Solomon's complete housewife exactly. At this Gentlewoman's House, the other two Commissioners had appointed to join them, but were detained by some Accident at Williamsburg, longer than their appointment.

January 24th 1711... James Allen, Leg; to brother Arthur Allen, 1400 acres of land granted to me by Patent, on April 25th 1701, situated on the south side main Blackwater Swamp, part in Surry and part in Isle of Wight, except 700-acres of land which I have sold to Thomas Pittman, and Samuel Lancaster and 300-acres which I have sold to Robert Lancaster, Jr.And also 200-acres, which I have sold to Joseph Wall, all of which said three parcels of land on part, are part of above patent, and I gave them to my loving brother, John Allen and his heirs, etc.And he confirms the three pieces of land to said parties as soon as possible after my decease... bequeaths Negro slaves to loving mother, Katherine Allen, for her life, at her death to brother, Joseph Allen.To Margaret Crocker, wife of John Crocker 1000 lbs. tobacco, to cousin, Arthur Bridger, when he is 21 to be paid by executors and small silver tankard Val four pounds.Rest of estate to be divided between all my brothers and sister, viz.Elizabeth Bridger, wife of William Bridger, John Allen, Arthur Allen, Ann Allen, Mary Allen and Joseph Allen.All to receive legacy at 18 years.Makes brother, John Allen, Executor, dated January 24th 1711, witnesses: Thomas Drew, Richard Taylor.Probated February 20th 1711.

1723 Surry Co., VA, Deed Book 7, pg. 506 (1715-1730)

February 10th 1723... Arthur Allen, Gentleman .to Benjamin Champion, 200-acres on south side of main Blackwater Swamp (part of a patent for 1400-acres formerly granted to James Allen deceased on April 25th 1701 and willed by said James Allen to said Arthur Allen) and bounded by Robert Lancaster. Signed Arthur Allen. Recorded February 19th 1723.

(p. 713) (probably about Apr-Jul 1737) Account of the Estate of Mr. Arthur Allen, decd, by Arthur Smith, Jr., and wife Elizabeth Smith, and James Bray, Administrators show payments to Mrs. Mary Baker, Patrick Brady, George Williamson, John Chester, Martin Dawson, Robert Lancaster, William Seward, James Ingles, Isaac Cornwell, Samuel Hargrave, Nathan Marlow, Sarah Thorp, William Flake, William Bridger, William Atkinson, William Waller, Thomas Thornton, William Pittman, William Little, Robert Jones, Charles Pitts, Lawrence Baker and Susanna Hargrave (Surry Co VA).


Arthur Allen lll, son of Arthur Jr. and Catherine died 1725 in VA. He married Elizabeth Bray, sister of Thomas amd James Bray. Elizabeth married second to Arthur Smith of Isle of Wight, and third a Mr. Stith. 

Arthur and Elizabeth had three children:

  2. Catherine Allen who married Benjamin Cocke
  3. Unknown daughter who married James Bradby
