About Arthur S. Alpert
He graduated from Watertown (NY) High School and served in the Navy in World War II. After his military service, he graduated in 1950 from Syracuse University with a bachelor's degree in business.
Arthur and Rosalyn G. Shapero married on April 3, 1955, in Syracuse, NY. Their two daughters are Debra Alpert Andrews of Schenectady, NY, and Amy Alpert of Belleville, Mich., who married Alex Tuszynski.
He worked with his father in retail sales at Max Alpert's Inc. on Public Square in Watertown until he bought the clothing store from his father. He owned and operated the business until he retired in 1991.
His sisters, Irma Alpert Squires of Longmeadow, Mass., and Helen Alpert Naimark, died before him.
A member of Degel Israel Congregation in Watertown, Arthur was a past president of the congregation and held other positions in the synagogue.
He was a past president and director of the Watertown Kiwanis Club and past lieutenant governor of the Ontario Division of the Kiwanis. He also was a member of the Fort Myers, Fla., Kiwanis Club, the Watertown Golf Club, the Syracuse University Alumni Association of Fort Myers and a past member of the U.S.O. Committee of Watertown.
He enjoyed traveling, family, golf. skiing and woodcarving.
