About Arthur Chevrolet
Arthur Chevrolet
Birth: unknown Death: Apr. 16, 1946
The second of three famous Swiss race car driving brothers, Arthur became a two-time veteran of the Indianapolis 500. Arthur also assisted older brother Louis in designing automobiles. He and Louis left the automobile business in 1929 to form the Chevrolet Brothers Aircraft Company with a new engine design to their credit. Unfortunately they later lost the business to Glenn Martin. Sadly, much of Arthur's subsequent life was beset by a sequence of unhappy occurrences. After he took his life at his home in Louisiana, he was returned to Indianapolis. He now rests with his brothers Louis and Gaston (winner of the 1920 Indianapolis 500) and nephew Charles. He does not have a monument of his own and his name does not appear on any of the other monuments in the plot. (bio by: Warrick L. Barrett)
Burial: Holy Cross and Saint Joseph Cemetery Indianapolis Marion County Indiana, USA
