Arthur Edmund Denis Dillon-Lee, 16th Viscount Dillon of Costello-Gallin was born on 10 April 1812 at London, England. He was the son of Henry Augustus Dillon-Lee, 13th Viscount Dillon of Costello-Gallin and Henrietta Browne. He married Ellen Adderly, daughter of James Adderly, on 22 April 1843 at London, England. He died on 12 January 1892 at age 79.

    He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.). He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.) He was appointed Fellow, Zoological Society (F.Z.S.) He succeeded as the 16th Viscount Dillon of Costello-Gallin, co. Mayo on 30 November 1879. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.). He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) in 1888.
