About Arthur James Iles
Arthur James Iles was born in Omaru on 10 June 1870. He set up a photographic studio in Lawrence, Otago, in 1891, and moved to Thames in 1893. He married Rebecca Elis-- Ripeka Rangi Mahora Ututaonga on 27th August 1895, and they had 5 children. In 1897 he worked in Sydney for Barnett's Falk Studios, and returned to New Zealand in 1900 to set up a photgraphic busines with publisher Arthur Cleave in Auckland. In 1901 the Iles family moved to Rotorua. Arthur and Rebecca divorced in 1932 and Arthur married Ada Hunt. Arthur James Iles died on 9 April 1943.
