Obituary for Arthur J. Toutant

Arthur J. Toutant, 65, resident of Bemidji for over 50 years, died unexpectedly at St. Joseph Hospital in Brainerd Wednesday. Mr. Toutant suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Monday and entered the local hospital and was being transferred to Northern Pacific Hospital in St. Paul when his condition became worse and he entered the Brainerd Hospital. Born at Red Lake Falls Nov. 26, 1897 of parents Bruno and Emma Toutant, Mr. Toutant came to Bemidji as a boy. He was employed by the Northern Pacific Railroad from 1918 to June 1963, when he retired. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge. Surviving are his widow, the former Lillian McBride, to whom he was married in 1920; one son, Philip Toutant of Rochester; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Emma Toutant of Bemidji; a sister, Mrs. Roy Anderson (Bertha) of Flint, Mich; two brothers, Albert, of Nottingham, N.J., and Sam of Waterloo, IA. Funeral services will be held at St. Philip's Catholic Church Friday at 9 a.m. with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. A Rosary service will be held this evening at 8 o'clock at the McKee Funeral Home.
