Former Red Lake Falls Resident Unexpectedly Summoned, Funeral To Be Held Saturday

Cash Cartier received the news that his brother-in-law, Bruno Toutant, age 78, former resident of Red Lake Falls, died suddenly Wednesday evening at his home at 710 Central avenue, Bemidji. He had suffered a stroke several years ago from which he never entirely recovered but his death was unexpected at this time.

Mr. Toutant was born at Penetanguishene, Ontario in September 1863 and came with his parents to Red Lake Falls in the spring of 1879. They settled on a farm five miles southeast of this city.

He married Miss Emma Cartier January 2, 1890. She survives him as do their children: Mrs. Morris Bentley and Arthur Toutant of Bemidji, Mrs. Ray Anderson and Bertha Toutant of Flint, Mich., and Samuel Toutant of Des Moines, Iowa.

The family moved to Bemidji in 1910 and have since resided there. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning from St. Philip's Catholic church at Bemidji. Mr. Cartier expects to attend.

BRUNO TOUTANT, VETERAN RESIDENT HERE, PASSES

Bruno Toutant, a resident of Bemidji for the past 35 years, died at his home at 710 Central Avenue Wednesday night after an illness of several years. He was born in Canada April 10, 1862, and at the time of his death was 79 years old. He lived in Canada until 15 years old and then moved to Minnesota. Since 1875 he has resided at Thief River Falls and Red Lake Falls, before coming to Bemidji in 1906. He was a member of the Catholic church. He was married to Emma Cartier at Crookston in 1889 and to this union two daughters and three sons were born. Surviving are his widow, two daughters, Anna Bentley of Bemidji and Bertha Anderson of Flint, Mich.; three sons, Sam of Waterloo, Iowa, Albert of Elizabeth, N.J., and Arthur of Bemidji; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at St. Philip's church at 8 a.m. Saturday and interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The body is at the McKee Funeral Home.
