Jewish Chronicle London 3 August 1979 page 12 Obituary Rabbi Dr Arthur Saul Super, who has died in Israel aged 71, had a colourful career as spiritual leader, Zionist stalwart and journalist. He was born in Great Yarmouth, England, where his father was shochet and chazan, and emigrated to Australia. He was educated in Melbourne and at Cambridge University and Jews' College and held Orthodox ministerial posts in Montreal, Bayswater (London) and Leeds. In 1975 he retired as chief minister of the Unite d Progressive Congregation of Johannesburg and as chairman of the ecclesiastical board of South African Reform Jewry and settled in Israel. He was a man of courageous and forthright views — with his pen and from the pulpit.
