Obituary of Arthur Williams, III
Arthur Williams, III, 98, died December 6th, at Concordia at Sumner on Ridgewood under the loving care of Great Lakes Hospice.
Arthur was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Arthur and Hazel (Johnson) Williams. He graduated from Andover Academy, Yale University (Economics), Harvard Business School, and the University of Akron Law School. Following college, Arthur worked as an auditor at Price Waterhouse near Boston. In 1941, Arthur came to Akron to manage the Department of Taxation at B.F. Goodrich. Later, he became Director of Management Information Systems for Goodrich. After retirement, Arthur founded several data processing service companies in Akron.
Arthur was active in many community activities, including the Boy Scouts of America, the International Institute, Northampton Zoning Committee and Twin Lakes Country Club. Arthur was a lifelong athlete who exercised at Akron General Wellness Center in Bath until shortly before his death.
Arthur was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann; with whom he had two children, Geoffrey (Broadview Heights) and Deborah (Thomas) Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.). Robert Pettigrew Williams, Arthur's brother, and Jayne Brown, Arthur's niece, predeceases him. Surviving Arthur is his sister, Anne R. Dick (Pt. Peyes Station, California) and her daughters, Hattie (Alexandria, Va.), Tandy and David (Tiburon, Calif.) and Laura and Russ (Pleasanton, Calif.). Arthur also leaves nephew, Bob (Emily) Williams of (Fairview Park); and niece, Claudia (Jose) Fonseca of Puenta Arenas, Brazil. There are many surviving grand-nieces and nephews. Arthur is also survived by his second wife, Diane.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on December 16, at 11 a.m. at the Shady Hollow pavilion in Sand Run Metro Park with Mary Grigola officiating. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of tribute, go for a walk or do something to make someone else happy today.
