About Arturo Giusti

Accident No. 23, June 5th. - An accident occurred in the Franklin mine rock house which caused the death of Arturo Guisto.

An inquest was held before Justice Fisher.

Luigi Peastrelli testified as follows: "The deceased and myself were filling the cars from the chute. We had one car filled with rock. I was leveling the rock on top of the car while my partner, the deceased, went to get another empty car. When the empty car struck the full car the deceased fell off the car and was jamımed between the car and the timbers. There was plenty of light so we could see. There were electric lights, also lanterns.”

Upon examination of the body it was found that the cause of death was a fracture of the spine in the region of the neck, also a fracture of the base of the skull.

Verdict of the jury: “We, the jury, upon our oaths do say that the said Arturo Guisto came to his death on the 5th day of June, A. D. 1900, by accidentally falling between the car and the timbers of the rock house at the Franklin mine. We attach no blame to anyone."
