About Arun M. Sarpeshkar
My dearest brother Arun was a well-centered mechanical engineer, very good with his hands and able to fix any type of machinery. Educated at the BMS College of Engineering and at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA, he served as Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Bangalore, India. Besides being an excellent teacher, Arun had mastered the repair and maintenance of heavy agricultural machinery that the UAS had acquired from the University of Tennessee. It is said that he would fix the machinery at the workshop, wash the grime off his hands and then quickly come over to deliver a great lecture. He had a great sense of humor and was liked by all his students.
Arun was an excellent Field Hockey player at the Inside Right position. He represented Karnataka State for several years and was known for his astute dribbling and goal scoring abilities. Unfortunately, his hockey career was cut short due to a bad knee injury during an away game.
One of his greatest assets was his helpful nature. All one had to do was ask him for help and he would go to extreme lengths to get the job done! I dearly miss him!
