Arieh Lieb changed his name to Hurwitz in order to escape service in the

czar's army.

R' Aryeh Leib married Sarah Elka Heilprin, he died in Berezin, (?)Belarus, Kaf Beit Adar Sheni (March 26,1897). They had two daughters Rahel died in Bialystok, February 25, 1920. She was married to R' Itzhak Eliyahu Ginzburg (R'ABD Bialystok) died April 2, 1922. The second daughter Hanna Leah married R' David Rogovin.

Since R' Samuel adopted the surname Horvits (due to being from Horovice), and his ancestral line is not known to be Levitic, then Moe Howard and his brothers are probably not descended from R' Samuel (17 AUG 2023)
