About Asa Fisher

Asa was the 4th of 8 children (3rd son) born of Benjamin Fisher (1701-1745) and his wife Anna Cowell (1702-1780). Asa's siblings were: Martha (b. 1728), Benjamin (1729-1792), Daniel (b. 1731), Anna (b. 1732), Joshua (1737-1776), Amos (1739-1754), and Joseph (b. 1741).

Asa married, March 29, 1759 at Wrentham, Norfolk County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, Esther Metcalf (1735-1801) by whom he had 7 children (4 sons and 3 daughters): Amos ( 1760-1808), Asa (b. 1761), Bathsheba (b. 1763), Asa (1765-1780), Esther (b. 1767), Ezra (b. 1769), and Patty (b. 1771).

Asa joined Captain Perez Cushing's Company as a Matross on November 1, 1776. They travelled from home to camp at Boston where the Company joined Colonel Thomas Craft's Artillery Train (Massachusetts Militia Artillery Regiment) as that Regiment's 9th Company. At Boston, they defended the port from British vessels. Asa served in this capacity to May 8, 1777, 6 months and 7 days.

In 1779, Asa then of Hopkinton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts purchased land in Grafton, Windham County, Vermont. The 1st recorded death in the town of Grafton is that of Asa Fisher, Jr, son of Asa and Esther, who died June 19, 1780, in the 16th year of his age.
